mPokket Loan Settlement: Process, CIBIL and Recovery Calls

mPokket loan settlement is a written agreement where the lending company accepts a reduced one-time amount as full and final payment on a loan you cannot repay in full. mPokket’s loans sit with an RBI-registered NBFC. The account then shows as “Settled”, not paid in full. Get the offer in writing before you pay anything.

Key Summary

  • mPokket loan settlement means paying less than owed, in writing, because full repayment is not possible.

  • Settlement can bring a waiver of up to 50%*, but no company guarantees it.

  • A “Settled” mark can stay on your credit report for up to 7 years.

  • From 1 January 2027, NBFC recovery calls and visits are limited to 8 AM to 7 PM.

  • Recovery agents may discuss your loan only with you or your guarantor, not your family, friends or colleagues.

What Is mPokket Loan Settlement?

Settlement is not something a borrower chooses out of preference. Banks and financial companies only consider it when you are in genuine financial difficulty and are truly unable to repay the full amount.

In plain terms, the company agrees in writing to accept a reduced lump sum as full and final payment. The account is then marked “Settled”. That is different from paying in full, and the difference shows on your credit report.

mPokket loans are given through an RBI-registered NBFC (non-bank loan company), so RBI’s conduct rules apply to how you are treated. Check the lending company’s name in your own loan agreement, because that is the entity your loan sits with.

There are three ways to end a loan, and they are often mixed up.

  • Full repayment: you pay everything you owe.
  • Part-payment: you pay some of the balance, and the loan carries on.
  • Settlement: you pay less than you owe because full repayment is not possible.

Settlement is for people who cannot repay at all, not for those who can manage with effort. No mPokket-published settlement policy was found, so everything here is general guidance. You can ask, and the lending company decides. For the broader picture, read personal loan settlement and one-time settlement.

Many people reach this point because the amount due has grown far beyond what they borrowed. The next section explains why.

Why Does the Amount Due on an mPokket Loan Keep Growing?

A small loan was missed, and now the amount on the screen is much larger than what you borrowed. That is a common and stressful moment, and it does not mean you did something unusual.

The total can be made up of several parts.

  • Principal: the money you actually borrowed
  • Interest: the cost of borrowing, charged over time
  • Penal charges: a fee for late payment
  • Fees: anything else listed in your agreement

RBI sets rules on the penal part. Under RBI/2023-24/53 (18 August 2023), a penal charge must be a charge and not extra interest added to your rate, and no interest can be charged on it (para 3(i)). The charge and its reason must be in the Key Fact Statement (KFS, the one-page summary of loan costs) and the loan agreement (para 3(vi)). A reminder must state the penal charge, with the reason each time it is levied (para 3(vii)).

RBI’s digital lending rules also require the KFS to show the APR (Annual Percentage Rate, the full yearly cost of the loan) and the penal charge upfront.

An illustrative example. Say a ₹6,000 loan now shows ₹12,000 due. Ask for the break-up of principal, interest, penal charges, and fees, and compare each line with the KFS. A line you cannot find in your papers is worth questioning in writing. No mPokket charge is quoted here.

For how the full cost is shown, see APR in a loan, explained. If the pattern feels familiar, understanding and escaping the debt trap explains the warning signs.

FREED Expert Tip

Ask mPokket for a written breakdown of principal, interest and charges before any talk of settlement.

When Does mPokket Loan Settlement Make Sense?

Start with the trigger: EMIs have already been missed. Then ask whether repaying in full is still possible. Settlement fits when the answer is no.

  • Your income has stopped or dropped. Repaying even the principal is not possible.
  • You cannot pay any of your app loans in full. Several loans at once make full repayment unrealistic.
  • Recovery calls have started. The loan is already treated as overdue.
  • A legal notice has arrived. The company is moving beyond reminders.
  • The total due is far above what you can ever raise. A lump sum you can raise is much smaller.

Settlement is for inability to pay, not for stress or for having several loans. If you can still repay, lighter options come first.

  1. Ask mPokket for a repayment plan or more time. A smaller instalment you can keep up is better than a missed one.
  2. If you are still paying across several loans, debt consolidation may help. Read what debt consolidation is.

A quick self-check helps. Add your monthly income and subtract rent, food, bills and any loan you must keep paying. If what is left cannot cover even a small part of the principal, that is a sign full repayment is out of reach. If it can, a plan with the company is the better first step.

To see what a longer default can lead to, read what happens if you default on a loan.

How Does mPokket Loan Settlement Work Step by Step?

No mPokket-published settlement process was found. So this is the standard method for a one-time settlement (OTS) with an NBFC, and you should confirm each step with the company.

  1. Work out what you can pay. Write down income, essential costs, and a lump sum you can truly raise.
  2. Ask mPokket for an itemised statement. It should show principal, interest, penal charges, and fees.
  3. Send a short written hardship request. Say why you cannot repay in full and attach proof.
  4. Ask for the offer in writing. A call or chat message is not proof later.
  5. Pay only through the channel named in the letter. Do not pay through an unknown link.
  6. Collect the settlement letter and confirmation. Keep every receipt.
  7. Check the account status on your report. It should show “Settled” with a zero balance.

Get this in writing before you pay

  • The exact settlement amount
  • The words “full and final”
  • The payment channel and date
  • Confirmation that no further dues will be raised
  • How the account will be reported
  • Who will send the settlement letter

Before you send anything, keep your own proof ready: income documents, a bank statement, and any medical or job-loss paper that explains the hardship. A request with proof is easier to assess than one without.

A waiver of up to 50%* is possible in general, but it depends on the company and your case, and no outcome is guaranteed. No response time can be promised either.

For help with the letter, read how to write a loan settlement letter, the settlement letter format, and how to negotiate a personal loan settlement.

How Does mPokket Loan Settlement Affect Your CIBIL Score?

A settled account shows as “Settled”, not paid in full. That mark can stay on your report for up to 7 years. This is FREED guidance, since RBI does not set one retention period for it.

Two facts from RBI’s credit reporting rules are worth knowing. NBFCs and banks send credit information to the bureaus on a fixed schedule, at least fortnightly, so a change can reach your report quickly. And when a company reports default or days past due to a bureau, it must send you an SMS or email, if it has your contact details (RBI Credit Information Reporting Directions 2025, paras 6(1)(b) and 16(1)(b)).

If a status is wrong, there is a correction route. The company has 21 days to send corrected data after being told. The company and the bureau together have 30 days. After that, the complainant is entitled to ₹100 per calendar day of delay (para 17).

No score drop in points is given here, since it varies. For depth, read about mPokket and your CIBIL score, the impact of debt settlement on your credit score, and how to remove a settled tag.

What Are the RBI Rules for mPokket Recovery Calls?

On 6 August 2026, RBI issued new recovery rules for NBFCs. They apply from 1 January 2027. Harassment by agents was never allowed, and the new rules spell it out.

Under RBI/2026-27/230, these are the main points.

  • Contact only between 8 AM and 7 PM, unless you ask otherwise (para 100Y(4)). You can ask for a different time.
  • Loan matters only with you or your guarantor (para 100Y(1)). Your family and contacts are not part of that conversation.
  • No harassing or shaming relatives, friends or co-workers, and no posting your details on social media (paras 100Z(6) and 100Z(2)).
  • No threats, abusive language or false statements about what you owe (para 100Z).
  • Agents must show ID and carry an authorisation letter when visiting (para 100X).
  • You must be told the agency’s details at least one day before a first visit (para 100L).
  • Recovery calls are recorded and kept for six months (para 100P).
  • Every recovery message must carry the grievance officer’s details (para 100AA).
  • Agents must hold an IIBF certificate (para 100I).

What applies today: RBI’s digital lending rules of 8 May 2025 already require the company to tell you the recovery agent’s details by email or SMS before the agent contacts you.

Before 1 January 2027, the safest habit is the same as after it: ask who is calling, on whose behalf, and where the company’s written notice is. A real agent can answer all three without pressure. Note the answers in your log.

Nothing here describes how any mPokket agent behaves. For more, see the RBI recovery agent rules and how to verify a recovery agent’s IIBF certificate.

What Can You Do If mPokket Recovery Calls Become Harassment?

You may be getting calls at odd hours, messages going to people in your phone contacts, or threats. Whatever the mix, these steps give you a record and a route.

  1. Keep a log. Note the date, time, caller, and what was said.
  2. Ask for the agent’s name, ID, and authorisation, and the agency details the company should have sent you.
  3. Write to the grievance officer, using the details the company must publish. mPokket’s own grievance policy page lists the escalation levels: customer support, the Grievance Redressal Officer, the Principal Nodal Officer, then the Ombudsman.
  4. If it is not fixed, use RBI’s complaint channels and the Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, which covers the company. See the RBI notification.

Under RBI’s digital lending rules, the regulated company carries the final responsibility for grievances, not the app.

Harassment-level calls are what FREED Shield is for. Nothing is promised.

Do not call a conversation illegal until the rule applies. Use the dates in the section above. For app-based loans in particular, read online loan harassment: when it’s an app, not a bank, and how to file a complaint against recovery agents.

What Are Your Options Besides mPokket Loan Settlement?

The options suit different situations. They are not interchangeable.

The lending company may consider accepting a reduced amount as full and final settlement if the borrower is facing genuine financial hardship. However, the reduction depends on the outstanding balance, the lender’s internal policy, and the individual circumstances. There is no standard settlement percentage, and approval is not guaranteed. Borrowers should obtain a written settlement offer before making any payment.

How FREED Helps If Your mPokket Loan Is in Default

There are two separate things FREED can help with, depending on where you stand.

If recovery calls are the problem. FREED Shield is for anyone facing recovery pressure, not only people enrolled in a FREED program. FREED Shield helps ensure that customers don’t have to face recovery-related pressure alone. It steps in when a call turns abusive or threatening, or when an agent visits without following the correct process. You can file through the FREED app, or call the helpline during a live harassment call. FREED’s in-house team can also check whether a legal notice is genuine and help draft a reply before any case is filed.

If you cannot repay in full. The FREED Loan Settlement Plan, also called the Debt Resolution Program or “Settle My Loans”, is built for that situation. FREED assesses your full picture, builds a plan, and guides a monthly savings routine into a settlement account. Once the fund is sufficient, FREED negotiates with the company, and the company decides the final terms. If an offer is accepted, you pay and receive a settlement letter.

This takes time. It never resolves a loan overnight, and no outcome is guaranteed. Nothing here says Shield stops calls or covers every call, and FREED does not work with or represent mPokket.

Learn how settlement, missed EMIs, and write-offs may influence your credit history and future borrowing eligibility. Any tool should provide general educational guidance rather than predict an exact credit-score reduction, recovery timeline, or date for reaching a particular CIBIL score.

What Helps During an mPokket Loan Settlement?

Five habits keep the process clean, from the first request to the last letter.

  1. Get every offer in writing before paying. A call carries no proof.
  2. Pay only through the channel named in the letter, and verify it in the app. Fake payment links are common.
  3. Keep a dated log of every call and message. It is your record if a dispute starts.
  4. After settlement, ask the company in writing to stop recovery calls and confirm the account status. If calls continue, you’re still getting calls after your loan is settled.
  5. Check your credit report a few weeks later. Look for the “Settled” status and a zero balance.

A short checklist for the day you pay. Confirm the amount matches the letter. Confirm the payment channel matches the letter. Take a screenshot of the confirmation. Then ask for the settlement letter and note the date you asked.

A short checklist for the month after. Watch your phone for any further recovery calls. Check your bank statement for any debit you did not expect. Pull your credit report and read the status line for this loan.

If a payment request looks off, read the fake loan app complaint guide.

Take it one letter at a time. A settlement is finished when the paper says so, and you have kept a copy.
