Bajaj Finance Recovery Agent: Rules, Rights and How to Complain
A Bajaj Finance recovery agent is a person or agency authorised to contact borrowers about overdue payments on the lender’s behalf. If you receive an unexpected call, verify the caller’s identity through Bajaj Finance’s official channels before sharing personal information or making a payment.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Recovery agents cannot call before 8:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m., as per RBI.
RBI holds the lender responsible for what its recovery agents do.
Bajaj Finance’s own complaint path runs from customer service to the RBI Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman can award up to ₹3 lakh for harassment or mental anguish.
Complaining does not cancel dues. Options exist if you cannot repay.
Who Is a Bajaj Finance Recovery Agent and When Do They Contact You?
You missed an EMI last week. Today an unknown number flashes on your phone. You let it ring, then it rings again. Your stomach tightens before you even pick up.
That moment is common, and it helps to know what is actually happening. A Bajaj Finance recovery agent is a person or firm that Bajaj Finance appoints to collect overdue EMIs on its behalf. The agent works for the lender, under the lender’s rules and RBI’s rules.
Collection calls after a missed payment are normal. A lender is allowed to remind you about dues and ask when you will pay. A call on its own is not harassment. What matters is how the call is made, when it is made and what is said.
These contacts usually follow a missed payment on products like:
Personal loans. A missed EMI often brings a reminder message first, then calls.
EMI Network Card dues. If the EMI on something bought through the card is missed, collection follows the same pattern.
Consumer durable EMIs. Phones, TVs and appliances bought on EMI at a store fall here.
Bajaj Finance also offers secured loans, such as loans against property. Those follow different terms and recovery routes, and FREED does not handle secured loans.
Here is how contact usually builds after a missed EMI:
Stage | What usually happens |
Due date passes | Auto-debit fails; you get an SMS or app alert |
First few days | Reminder messages and calls from the lender’s team |
If dues stay unpaid | Calls from a recovery agent or agency acting for the lender |
Later stages | A written notice, or a visit following the lender’s process |
Most people reading this are not careless. Maybe salary came late. Maybe a medical bill arrived. Maybe a few EMIs on different dates finally caught up with you. Whatever the reason, you still have clear rights.
If you want a fuller picture of what agents do, read who a recovery agent is. Next, let’s look at the rules every Bajaj Finance recovery agent must follow.
Recovery Pressure Should Not Feel Lonely
Understand your rights and prepare a complaint.
Understand My RightsWhat Are the RBI Rules for Bajaj Finance Recovery Agents?
RBI sets the rules for how every regulated lender, including Bajaj Finance, collects dues through agents. The Reserve Bank of India’s circular RBI/2022-23/108, dated 12 August 2022, sets out requirements for regulated entities using recovery agents, including safeguards against harassment and responsibility for agents’ conduct.
The core RBI rules:
Calling hours. Recovery calls cannot be made before 8:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m.
No intimidation. Agents cannot intimidate or harass you, verbally or physically.
No improper methods. Threatening calls, anonymous calls, inappropriate messages and false claims are not allowed.
The lender answers for its agents. Whatever an agent does, the lender that appointed them is responsible.
That last rule has been tested. In January 2021, RBI fined Bajaj Finance ₹2.5 crore for failing to stop harassment by its recovery agents. It is a dated action from 2021, and RBI’s own release notes that it does not pronounce on the validity of any loan. What it shows is simple: RBI treats agent conduct as the lender’s duty.
What Bajaj Finance says about its own process. Separately from RBI’s rules, Bajaj Finance describes some rules for its agents on its own pages. Bajaj Finance’s published guidance should be checked for its current requirements on agent identification, authorisation and visits. Do not present these company-specific statements as universal RBI requirements.
It helps to keep the two apart:
Rule | Where it comes from |
No calls before 8:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. | RBI |
No threats, abuse or false claims | RBI |
Lender responsible for its agents | RBI |
Agent carries ID and authorisation letter | Bajaj Finance’s own statement |
Written notice before a visit | Bajaj Finance’s own statement |
You may read other “rules” online, about specific certificates or call recordings. We could not find a verified source for those, so this guide leaves them out.
For the full list of RBI rules on recovery, read RBI’s recovery agent rules.
How Can You Tell a Bajaj Finance Recovery Agent Has Crossed the Line?
Not every call is a problem. But not every call should be tolerated, either. These two lists help you tell the difference.
Signs an agent has crossed the line:
Abuse or threats. Shouting, slurs or lines like “you will see what happens”. RBI bars this outright.
Anonymous or repeated threatening calls. Many calls from different numbers, with no name given. That is pressure, not collection.
False claims about arrest or legal action. Lines like “police will come tomorrow” are often used only to scare. Do not panic, and write down exactly what was said.
Calls outside 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A recovery call at 9:30 p.m. breaks RBI’s timing rule.
Visits that do not follow protocol. A sudden visit to your home or office, with no notice and no ID, meant to embarrass you in front of others.
Signs of normal collection:
Polite reminders. The caller gives their name, says they are calling for Bajaj Finance, and asks when you can pay.
Written notices. A notice from the lender is a normal step. Read it carefully and keep it safe.
Calls within allowed hours. Calls between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with a clear purpose.
Here is the same idea as a quick check:
What happened | Normal or line crossed? |
Reminder call at 11 a.m., agent gives name and company | Normal |
Call at 8:45 p.m. asking for payment | Line crossed (timing) |
“Pay today or we will tell your office” | Line crossed (threat) |
Written notice by post or email | Normal |
12 calls in a day from unknown numbers | Line crossed (harassment pattern) |
Knowing this split takes a lot of the fear away. Respond calmly to normal calls. When the line is crossed, start your record and move to the complaint steps.

Check My EMI ScoreHow Do You Complain About a Bajaj Finance Recovery Agent, Step by Step?
A Bajaj Finance recovery agent complaint works best when it is written, dated and follows the right order. Here are the 6 steps:
Note the details.
Date, time, number and the agent’s name.Raise a service request.
Use Bajaj Finance’s app, portal or customer care. Keep the request number.Escalate to the Grievance Redressal Officer.
Bajaj Finance lists up to 10 working days for a reply.Escalate to the Principal Nodal Officer.
Another up to 10 working days.Approach the RBI Ombudsman.
After the GRO and PNO, or if there is no satisfactory reply within 30 days.Contact police if you feel unsafe.
For physical or serious threats.
What to write in step 2. Keep it short and factual:
Your name, registered mobile number and loan account number.
The date, time and number of each problem call.
What was said, in a line or two per call.
What you want: “Please stop these calls and take action against the agent.”
Attach screenshots of your call log and any messages.
The full escalation path at a glance:
Level | Where | Typical time to reply |
1 | Bajaj Finance customer service (app, portal, care) | As per the company’s process |
2 | Grievance Redressal Officer | Up to 10 working days |
3 | Principal Nodal Officer | Up to 10 working days |
4 | RBI Ombudsman, via cms.rbi.org.in | After the lender’s 30-day timeline |
The RBI route. RBI’s Integrated Ombudsman Scheme is a free complaint route. You can file online at cms.rbi.org.in, within 90 days after the lender’s 30-day timeline ends. For help, the RBI Contact Centre’s toll-free number is 14448.
For a complaint accepted under the Scheme, the Ombudsman may award compensation for qualifying loss of time, expenses, harassment or mental anguish, subject to the Scheme’s provisions. The maximum for these categories is ₹3 lakh; compensation is not guaranteed.

Start My Debt AssessmentWhat Should You Say and Keep on Record When an Agent Calls?
Knowing what to say before the phone rings takes away half the stress. Keep these lines ready.
Say:
“May I have your name and the company you work for?” A genuine Bajaj Finance recovery agent should tell you both.
“Please send this demand in writing.” It gives you a record and slows down pressure tactics.
“I will respond through Bajaj Finance’s official channel.” It moves the conversation to a place with records and timelines.
“I am noting this call for my records.” Said calmly, it often keeps the call more measured.
Avoid:
Promising payment on the phone. A promise made under pressure can be hard to keep, and it can be held against you.
Sending money to a personal UPI ID. Pay only into the lender’s account named in writing. Never into an individual’s account.
Sharing OTPs or bank details. No genuine lender asks for your OTP on a call.
Signing blank papers. Empty spaces can be filled in later. Never sign anything incomplete.
What to keep on record:
Record | Why it matters |
Call log with date, time and number | Shows the pattern and timing of calls |
Screenshots of messages | Proof of what was written to you |
Service request number | Ties every escalation step together |
Dates of each complaint and reply | Shows when timelines started and ran out |
The service request number is the thread that holds your complaint together. Quote it every time you escalate, so each officer sees the full history.
Opinions differ on recording calls, and we could not find a verified source on it. The safest approach is to keep your own notes after each call, along with screenshots.
For a deeper guide on building this record, read how to document threat calls from recovery agents.
What Are Your Options If You Cannot Pay Bajaj Finance?
A harassment complaint and your loan are two separate things. A complaint can stop wrong behaviour. It does not cancel the debt. So it helps to look at the loan itself too.
If you can still pay something:
Ask Bajaj Finance for revised terms. Write to the lender, explain what changed, and ask whether the EMI or schedule can change. A short-term problem often has a short-term fix. Read more on Bajaj Finance restructuring.
Consolidation (“Reduce My EMI”). If you have several loans and cards, a lending partner gives you one new loan that pays off your existing unsecured dues. You are left with one EMI, on one date. The EMI amount is reduced. Your CIBIL score does not drop, and it starts to improve as you pay regularly.
Example: say you pay ₹6,500 to Bajaj Finance, ₹4,000 on a card and ₹3,500 on an app loan, on 3 different dates. Consolidation replaces all 3 with one lower EMI on one date. (Example figures only.) FREED’s Loan Consolidation Plan is built for this. To understand the idea fully, read what debt consolidation is.
If full repayment is genuinely impossible:
Loan settlement may be considered when a borrower is unable to repay the full outstanding amount, but approval is not guaranteed. The lender assesses the circumstances and decides whether to accept a reduced payment. Before agreeing, ask for the settlement terms in writing and understand how the account may be reported to credit bureaus.
The lender accepts a lower final amount, and your report shows “Settled” for up to 7 years. FREED’s Debt Resolution Program works with such cases for unsecured loans. Our guides on Bajaj Finance loan settlement and Bajaj Finserv loan settlement explain the process.
Revised terms | Consolidation (Reduce My EMI) | Settlement (Settle My Loans) | |
For whom | Short-term trouble | Still paying, stretched thin | Cannot repay in full |
What happens | Lender changes the schedule | One new loan pays existing dues | Lender accepts a lower final amount |
CIBIL effect | Depends on the lender | Score starts to improve | “Settled” status remains |
Who decides | Lender | Lending partner approval | Lender |

How to get help:
To file a complaint: use the FREED app.
During a live harassment call: call the FREED helpline.

What Do Missed Bajaj Finance EMIs Do to Your Credit Score?
Recovery calls usually follow missed EMIs. So the same missed payments that bring calls also show up on your credit report.
What DPD means. Days past due (DPD) indicates how late a payment is relative to its due date. The reported status depends on the payment history recorded by the lender and shared with the credit bureau. Check your credit report if the reported delay appears inconsistent with your payment records.
DPD on your report | What a future lender usually reads |
A few days, then cleared | A short delay, often a timing issue |
Around 30 | A real missed payment |
60 to 90 | Ongoing difficulty with repayment |
Above 90 | Serious stress on the account |
Why scores fall. The higher DPD climbs, the more a lender sees risk. One short delay counts for less than months of missed payments. We will not give a points figure, because the impact depends on your full credit history.
What a bounce adds. A failed auto-debit usually brings its own charge, on top of the overdue EMI. Our guide on what happens when your EMI bounces explains this in detail.
If settlement happens. If the loan is eventually settled, your report shows “Settled”, and that tag can stay for up to 7 years. New credit may be harder or costlier during that time.
What helps:
Pay as early as you can. Every extra day adds to DPD.
Keep every other EMI on time. Each on-time payment adds positive history.
Check your report regularly. Dispute any error with proof.
Read more on how to clear DPD in your CIBIL report.
What Helps While You Deal With Recovery Calls?
Recovery pressure can make every day feel heavy. These habits keep you steady while you work things out.
Keep a calm, dated record. Note every call and message. A clear record also gives you confidence, because you know you have proof.
Share the situation with someone you trust. A family member or friend. Carrying this alone makes it feel bigger than it is.
Pay essentials first. Rent, food, school fees and medicines come before any EMI. A plan that leaves your family short of basics will not hold.
Ask the lender for written options. Explain your situation in writing and ask what is possible. A written reply makes planning easier.
Save steadily, even small amounts. ₹500 or ₹1,000 a month still adds up. That fund can become the base for a solution later.
Avoid new loans to pay old ones. It brings a week of relief, then one more EMI and one more set of calls.
A Bajaj Finance recovery agent can call you about real dues. But you also have real rights, and a clear path when those rights are crossed.
Recovery pressure is stressful. Your rights are clear, the steps are clear, and help is there when you need it.
