KEY TAKEAWAYS
CIBIL report kaise nikale: use the official CIBIL site for 1 free score and report each calendar year.
RBI directs every credit bureau to give 1 free full credit report, with score, each calendar year.
The report shows your score, accounts, payment history and enquiries from the last 36 months.
If you already took this year's free report, the next one is free from 1 January 2027.
CIBIL cannot change records itself. Errors are fixed through a dispute with CIBIL or your bank.
What Is a CIBIL Report and How Is It Different From a CIBIL Score?
A CIBIL report is the full record of your loans and cards. A CIBIL score is one number inside that record. Think of the report as your full marksheet and the score as the total at the bottom. Lenders read the whole marksheet, not just the total. The report is also called a CIR (credit information report).
Here is what CIBIL's own page says the report shows:
Your score. This is a three-digit number between 300 and 900. A higher number tells lenders you have repaid on time.
A summary of your payment history. It shows how you paid across your loans and cards, month by month.
Your personal details. These include your name, date of birth and gender. They help match the right records to the right person.
Your enquiries for the last 36 months. An enquiry is a record that a lender looked at your file, usually after you applied for credit.
Your active and inactive accounts. Active accounts are the loans and cards you still use. Inactive ones are accounts that have ended.
Here is an example. Asha and Ravi both show a score of 740. Asha has paid every EMI on time. Ravi missed one card payment last year. Their scores match, but their reports do not. Only the report shows the missed payment. The lender may consider the additional information in Ravi's report when assessing the application.
That is why the report matters more than the number alone. Read more on the difference between a credit score and a credit report, and see what CIBIL report details cover.
Once you know what is inside, it gets easier to see why you need a copy.
Freed Expert Tip
Save the PDF to your phone and email it to yourself, so you have a dated copy before you apply for a loan.
Learn how to open the report PDFWhy Do You Need Your CIBIL Report?
Maybe a loan was declined and nobody told you why. Maybe a bank asked for your report. Or maybe you plan to apply for a card soon and want to be sure first. All three are good reasons to look.
Here are four reasons to take your report:
Before you apply for a loan or card. You see what the lender will see, so there are no surprises at the counter.
After a rejection. The report often points to the cause, such as a late payment or too many recent applications.
To spot mistakes. An account that is not yours, or a payment marked late by error, can hold your score down.
To catch identity misuse early. A loan you never took, in your name, shows up here first.
Say you were turned down for a card last month. You can open your report and look at the enquiries list. If five lenders checked your file in a short time, that may explain it. If a payment shows as late when you paid on time, that is worth raising. Either way, you learn something real.
One more thing to keep in mind. Checking your own report is commonly described as a soft enquiry (a check that does not touch your score). It does not lower your score. Here is more on whether checking reduces your CIBIL score.
The free route takes only a few minutes. Here is how it works.
CIBIL Report Kaise Nikale: How to Get Your Free CIBIL Report Online
CIBIL gives you 1 free score and report each calendar year on its official site. Here are the steps:
Keep your details ready. You need your name, date of birth, mobile number, email and an ID such as PAN (Permanent Account Number), because the bureau matches them to your file.
Type the official CIBIL web address yourself. CIBIL says it communicates only through its own site and email domains, and look-alike pages exist.
Tap "Get Free CIBIL Score and Report". The free offer sits behind that button.
Fill the short form and set a login. This creates your account.
Verify with the OTP (one-time password). This proves the file is yours.
Finish ID verification if asked. If online checks fail, CIBIL support can complete it by phone.
Open your report from the dashboard. Check your name, PAN and address first.
If a page shows paid plans, look for the free report option before you pay. The free offer is separate from the paid plans.
A few pointers make this smoother. Use the same name, date of birth and PAN that appear on your loan papers. A small spelling difference can stop the match. Keep your phone nearby, because the OTP comes to your mobile and expires fast. And never share your OTP with anyone who calls you, even if they say they are from CIBIL or a bank.
Here is the timing. CIBIL's page says you get 1 free score and report per calendar year. If you have already used your free report for the 2026 calendar year, your next annual free entitlement will fall in the 2027 calendar year. Here is how to manage your CIBIL account login, and how to check your CIBIL score by PAN card.
Once you can see the report, the next step is saving a copy. That comes next.

Check My Credit InsightsHow to Download and Save Your CIBIL Report as a PDF
Saving a copy takes three short steps:
Open your credit report on the dashboard. The report must be on screen first.
Choose the print or save option. The label may differ, so look for the one that saves the page.
Save it as a PDF on your phone or laptop. Saving the report as a PDF gives you a dated copy of the information available at that time.
A saved copy is a snapshot of that day. Your report changes as lenders send new data. So save a dated copy before you apply for a loan, and you will know what the lender saw on that date.
Things do not always go smoothly. Here are the common snags:
The PDF asks for a password. Use the instructions given when the report is made, or the ones in CIBIL's message. Do not trust old password formats you find online, because there is no one format that fits everyone.
The OTP does not come. Check that the number is right and has signal, then try again after a minute.
No report is found. This can happen if you have no credit history yet. The next section explains the cases.
You cannot log in. Reset the login, or ask CIBIL support to help you.

Why Can't I Get My CIBIL Report?
A missing report does not mean something is wrong. If CIBIL cannot find a matching credit file, it may be because you have limited or no reported credit history, or because the personal details entered do not match the bureau's records. CIBIL's terms say a report is made for people with prior credit or enquiries. They also say a score is available for people with an active loan or card in the last 36 months.
Three common cases explain most "no report" results:
You have never taken a loan or card. There may be nothing to show yet. The next step is to build history slowly, for example with a small card or loan that you repay on time. Here is a guide for people with no credit score.
Your last account ended a long time ago. The report may still show old history, but the score may not appear if nothing was active in the last 36 months.
Your details do not match. A name, date of birth or PAN typed differently from your loan papers can stop the match. Retry with details exactly as they appear on those papers.
Here is an example. Say your last credit card closed 4 years ago, and you have taken no loan since. You may get a report that shows that old card, but no current score. That is not an error. It simply means nothing has been active in the last 36 months.
If your report shows very few accounts, you might see a message about that. Here is what insufficient number of accounts on CIBIL means.
How Many Free CIBIL Reports Can You Get in a Year, and What Is Paid?
RBI has a simple rule. Every credit information company must give you 1 free full credit report, with your score, once in a calendar year (January to December). The full report is meant to carry the same level of detail as the version lenders see.
India has four credit bureaus: CIBIL, Equifax, Experian and CRIF High Mark. So you can take one free report from each. That gives you up to four free looks at your credit in a year.
Where Can You Get a Credit Report in India?
Option | Report from | Cost | What to know |
CIBIL official site | TransUnion CIBIL | 1 free per calendar year | Extra reports may need a paid plan |
Other bureaus (Equifax, Experian, CRIF High Mark) | Each bureau | 1 free per calendar year each | A different bureau can show a different score |
Apps and marketplaces | Varies, check the app | Often free | Check the bureau name and read the consent |
FREED Credit Insights | Experian | ₹249 for 3 months | Experian report with step-by-step actions |
Details are indicative and can change. Please verify directly on each platform. FREED is not a Loan Provider.
Here is how to use this. Take your CIBIL report in March. Then take your Experian or Equifax report in September. Now you can check the same accounts twice, six months apart. If an account shows on one report and not the other, that is worth a look.
A second CIBIL report in the same year may need a paid plan. Check CIBIL's current plans on its site before you decide. A free app score is different from a full report, so look at the bureau name beside any number you see. Here is a page on getting a free Experian report.
Rates and ranges shown are indicative. Final terms decided by the bank. FREED is not a Loan Provider. No outcome is guaranteed. Please verify directly with your bank.
What the Law Says
Every credit bureau must give you 1 free full credit report, including the score, each calendar year.
Learn how the free annual report worksHow FREED Helps If You Want to Understand Your Report and Fix What Pulls It Down
A free report shows you the record. It does not always tell you what to do about it. That is where a paid option can help, and it is fair to say that up front.
FREED Credit Insights ("Check My Credit") is not free. It costs ₹249 for a 3-month subscription. It does not replace your free CIBIL report. Take the free report first. Credit Insights is an extra for readers who want more guidance.
It uses your Experian report. So it is an Experian report, not a CIBIL one. It does three things:
It shows your score.
It shows what is pulling that score down.
It gives step-by-step actions to improve it.
It is open to everyone, whether or not you are in any FREED program. It does not fix your score for you. It shows you what to work on, and you do the work. Think of it as one option next to the free ones.
If EMIs are the real strain, there is another route. When several EMIs stretch your month, FREED's Debt Consolidation Program is built for people who can still repay. FREED assesses your profile and matches you with a lending partner. One new loan then replaces your existing ones, so you pay one lower EMI to one lender.

What to Do After You Get Your CIBIL Report?
Open your report and go through it in this order. Each step has a reason.
Check your name, PAN and address first. A wrong detail can mean your file is mixed up with someone else's.
Scan every account for ones you do not know. A loan or card you never took can be an error or a sign of misuse.
Look at the payment history for late marks you do not agree with. If you paid on time, keep your payment proof ready.
Read the enquiries list for lenders you never applied to. An unknown name is worth noting down with the date.
If you find an error, raise a dispute. Write to CIBIL, or contact the bank's nodal officer (the bank's designated person for complaints).
CIBIL does not independently rewrite information reported by a lender. If you find an error, you can raise a dispute through CIBIL and/or contact the lender that supplied the information. The dispute is then investigated and the relevant records may be updated if the reporting entity confirms a correction. CIBIL's FAQ says disputes take about 30 days, subject to the bank's reply. Here is how to fix wrong entries. If you want to read the report line by line, see how to read a CIBIL report.
A safety tip. CIBIL says consumers do not need to pay a fee to improve a score or fix errors. It also says it never calls, SMSes or emails to sell score repair. If a caller offers that in CIBIL's name, hang up. Read what to check before using any score repair agency.
Keep one more number in mind. If your total EMIs take more than 50% of your take-home pay, the month gets tight. Say your take-home pay is ₹40,000, and your EMIs add up to ₹22,000. That is 55%, and only ₹18,000 is left for everything else. Test a new loan with FREED's EMI Score before you take it.
