TVS Credit EMI Bounce Charges: CIBIL Impact and Next Steps
TVS Credit EMI bounce charges are the fees and penal charge TVS Credit can levy when an EMI fails on its due date. The amount depends on your loan product. A bounce also makes the EMI overdue, which can reach your credit report. Paying the overdue EMI promptly may limit further overdue exposure, but applicable charges depend on your loan terms and the timing of payment.

Key Summary
TVS Credit lists bounce fees by product, mostly ₹500 to ₹750, inclusive of GST.
For most products, TVS Credit lists a penal charge of 36% a year on the unpaid instalment.
RBI bars lenders from turning penal charges into further interest.
Complain to TVS Credit first. RBI’s complaint portal opens after 30 days.
Lenders report credit information to credit bureaus, but the timing of an update can vary. Check your credit report after the lender has processed the repayment or updated the account, and dispute any inaccurate information through the appropriate channels.
What Is a TVS Credit EMI Bounce and What Happens Right Away?
The SMS lands: “Your EMI debit failed.” You were sure the money was there. Or you meant to top up the account, and the day got away.
A TVS Credit EMI bounce means the lender tried to collect your monthly instalment (EMI) on its due date, and the payment did not go through. TVS Credit then treats that EMI as overdue.
Here is what can happen right away:
- The EMI becomes overdue.
- A bounce fee can apply.
- A penal charge can apply.
- A reminder follows.
What comes next depends on your loan type. This page covers both kinds. Unsecured loans, such as consumer durable loans, personal loans and the Insta Card, can have different consequences from secured loans, which are vehicle and asset loans. If you’re unsure which you have, secured vs unsecured loans explains the difference. Every figure below is labelled by product, so check yours.
One bounce is fixable. Pay quickly, and the cost stays small. Trouble starts when bounces turn into a pattern.
Take Priya. She has paid every EMI on time for two years. One month her salary lands a day late, and the debit fails. She did nothing careless. Bounces like hers are common, and they have a simple fix.
First, why does it happen?

Check My Credit InsightsWhy Does a TVS Credit EMI Bounce?
Most bounces have an ordinary cause. These show up most often:
- Low balance on the debit date. The money isn’t in the account when the debit runs. Even a small shortfall can fail the whole EMI.
- Salary credited after the EMI date. If your pay arrives on the 5th and your EMI falls on the 3rd, the debit fails every month.
- Mandate limit or expiry. A mandate (the auto-debit instruction you gave your bank) has a limit and an end date. If either is crossed, the debit stops.
- A changed or closed account. If you switched salary accounts, the old instruction may point nowhere.
- A bank holiday or technical failure. Sometimes the cause lies on the bank’s side.
TVS Credit’s schedule also lists a separate charge for a mandate registration failure. That is not the same as a bounce fee, so don’t mix the two.
The debit comes from your own bank account, which may charge its own fee for a failed debit. Check your account bank’s fee schedule to see.
If bounces are becoming regular, look at the bigger picture. Your EMI Score is a quick self-check of how heavy your EMIs are against your income.
Now, what does TVS Credit list as charges?
How Much Are TVS Credit EMI Bounce Charges?
These figures come from TVS Credit’s published Schedule of Charges. They are indicative and may change. The schedule shows no effective date, so recheck every figure before you rely on it.
| Product (TVS Credit label) | Bounce fee (incl. GST) | Penal charge |
|---|---|---|
| Two-wheeler (secured) | Maximum ₹750 | 36% a year on unpaid instalment |
| Consumer durable and mobile loans | ₹650 | 36% a year on unpaid instalment |
| Consumer durable personal loan | ₹750 | 36% a year on unpaid instalment |
| Insta Card | ₹500 | 36% a year on unpaid instalment |
| Digital partnership personal loan | ₹0 to ₹750 | Up to 36% a year on unpaid instalment |
Here is what the columns mean. The bounce fee is charged once for each failed attempt, and the schedule lists it inclusive of GST. So don’t add 18% on top.
The penal charge is worked out on the unpaid instalment, not on your whole outstanding loan. TVS Credit’s schedule says it is not capitalised, meaning it isn’t added to your loan balance to earn more interest.
RBI sets rules around this. Penal charges must be disclosed in your loan agreement, in the Key Fact Statement (a one-page summary of your loan terms) and on the lender’s website. They also cannot attract further interest.
If a charge looks wrong, raise it with TVS Credit. It lists four levels: customer support, the Grievance Redressal Officer, the Principal Nodal Officer and the RBI Officer-in-Charge. Start by submitting a written complaint to TVS Credit and keep the complaint reference and response. If the matter is rejected, remains unresolved or you do not receive a response within the applicable period, check the current RBI Integrated Ombudsman Scheme requirements before escalating through the RBI Complaint Management System. Confirm the relevant eligibility criteria and filing deadline before submitting your complaint. Check TVS Credit’s current page for contact details.

What the Law Says
RBI bars lenders from turning penal charges into further interest, and they must be disclosed in your loan agreement.
Book My CallWhat Happens After a TVS Credit EMI Bounce?
These stages usually follow a bounce. Timing depends on your loan and your agreement.
Overdue status. The EMI is unpaid, and the loan shows as overdue.
Charges. The bounce fee and penal charge start to apply.
Reminders. Expect SMS, email or calls asking you to pay.
Collection contact. If the EMI stays unpaid, the lender may assign someone to follow up.
Credit reporting. Lenders report to credit bureaus, and RBI has moved them towards weekly submissions. So a missed EMI can reach your report sooner.
The two loan types differ in one way.
Unsecured loans. Here the effects are reminders, collection contact and credit impact.
Secured vehicle loans. A vehicle loan is secured against the financed asset. Continued non-payment can lead to further recovery action under the loan agreement and applicable law. Contact TVS Credit early to discuss the available options and understand the consequences before making a decision. Read your agreement, and talk to the lender early.
A rights note. Collection calls cannot come before 8:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. Read more in RBI recovery agent rules. For a wider look at what a bounce sets off, see what happens when an EMI bounces.
None of this has to spiral. The earlier you pay, the less builds up.
So how do you fix it?
How Do You Fix a TVS Credit EMI Bounce?
- Add funds and check the mandate. Confirm balance, account and mandate limit.
- Pay the overdue EMI. Use the TVS Credit app, website or the channel shown in your agreement.
- Ask for the amount in writing. Include the EMI, bounce fee and penal charge.
- Align the debit date. Ask whether the due date can move after your salary credit.
- Keep every receipt and message. They are your proof.
- Check your credit report. Look for the update once the lender reports it.
You can politely ask TVS Credit to waive a charge. No waiver is guaranteed, but asking costs nothing.
One bounce can be fixed fast. If bounces keep coming, you need a different plan. The next section covers that.
FREED Expert Tip
If your budget allows, maintain a small buffer in the account used for EMI payments. Set a reminder before the due date and contact the lender early if you expect a shortfall.
Check My CreditWhat Are Your Options If EMIs Keep Bouncing?
Order matters here. Start with the lightest option.
If you can still pay, ask TVS Credit for revised terms or a changed EMI date. A new date that follows your salary can fix the problem for good.
For unsecured loans, the next step is consolidation (merging your loans into one lower EMI). A new loan from a lending partner pays off your existing unsecured dues. You’re left with one EMI. Debt consolidation may simplify repayments by combining eligible debts into one EMI. However, approval, the new EMI, total borrowing cost and the effect on your credit profile depend on your circumstances and the lender’s terms. Review the interest rate, fees, repayment period and total amount payable before proceeding. Two guides go deeper: how to decide on unsecured debt consolidation and how to settle multiple unsecured loans.
Only then comes settlement, and only for borrowers who truly cannot repay. Settlement is not something a borrower chooses out of preference. It is for people in genuine difficulty. The account shows “Settled” on your report, which affects future loans. You can read about FREED’s Debt Resolution Program.
These options cover unsecured loans only. For a vehicle loan, speak to the lender. Ask about revised terms or a new EMI date before the account slips further.
How Does FREED Help With Unsecured TVS Credit Loans?
First, a boundary. FREED does not handle vehicle loans or any other secured loan. This section is for unsecured loans only.
FREED’s Loan Consolidation Plan, also called the Debt Consolidation Program (“Reduce My EMI”), is for people who can still repay but need a smarter way to manage their debt.
Here is how it works. FREED looks at your financial profile and matches you to a lending partner from its network. If you qualify and a lending partner approves your application, the partner may provide a loan to repay eligible unsecured debts included in the arrangement. The resulting repayment structure and terms will depend on the approved offer.
The new EMI is lower than your combined EMIs were before. Your CIBIL score doesn’t drop, and it begins to improve. The new loan can only be used to pay existing eligible debt. The whole process is 100% online.
The fee is success-based. FREED charges it only when consolidation is done. If one lending partner rejects the application, FREED tries other partners that match your profile.
FREED has counselled 20,00,000+ customers and managed ₹3,500 Cr+ in debt. You aren’t the first person to be stuck here.
If you’re unsure whether you qualify, talk to FREED’s team. They will check your situation. You can read more on FREED’s Debt Consolidation Program.

What Does a TVS Credit EMI Bounce Do to Your CIBIL Score?
Honestly, it depends on how long the EMI stays unpaid. A single bounce repaid quickly is very different from an EMI that sits overdue for weeks.
The key term is DPD (days past due, the number of days an EMI is late). The more days overdue, the more your report is affected. A short delay is a small mark. A long delay is a bigger one.
We haven’t given a point drop here. It varies from person to person, and no one can promise a number. We also haven’t claimed a grace period. Check your own loan terms for that.
What can you do? Pay the overdue amount through a verified lender-authorised channel and retain the receipt. Continue making subsequent payments on time, then check your credit report after the lender has processed and reported the update. If the information remains inaccurate, raise a dispute through the relevant channels. For more, see how to clear DPD in your CIBIL report. If a bounce came from a cheque, read bounced cheque and your CIBIL score.

Book My CallWhat Helps Prevent Another EMI Bounce?
A few small habits go a long way:
- Keep a buffer of one EMI in the debit account. Even a small cushion covers a late salary.
- Match the EMI date to your salary date. If your pay lands on the 5th, ask for a date on the 7th.
- Set a reminder two days before. A phone alert gives you time to top up.
- Review mandate limits yearly. An old limit can quietly block a bigger EMI.
- Talk to the lender early if cash is tight. Lenders respond better before a miss than after.
If collection calls cross the line, FREED provides an added layer of support through FREED Shield, a dedicated borrower-support service. FREED Shield is open to everyone, whether or not you’re a FREED customer. It helps you understand your rights and can assist you in preparing and submitting a complaint through the appropriate channels. It doesn’t stop calls by itself. For the steps, read how to file a complaint about recovery agent harassment.
One bounce is a bump. A plan keeps it from becoming a pattern.
