Loan Harassment

7 Days Loan App Harassment: How to Stop It and Where to Complain

7-day loan app harassment is when a short-term loan app, often unregistered, starts threatening you or messaging your contacts as soon as a seven-day repayment date passes. Save the evidence, remove the app’s permissions, do not pay new fees, and report it on cybercrime.gov.in or helpline 1930.

Key Summary

  • Seven-day loan apps set a very short repayment date, and harassment is often reported to start right after it passes.

  • Report threats, morphed photos and contact messages on cybercrime.gov.in or helpline 1930, and to the police.

  • Check the app in RBI’s public digital lending apps directory. A listing is not an RBI endorsement.

  • Do not pay new “extension”, “penalty” or “unlock” fees demanded over calls or WhatsApp.

  • MeitY has blocked 87 illegal loan apps under Section 69A, per a Lok Sabha reply.

What Is 7 Days Loan App Harassment?

It is repeated threats, abuse or contact with other people from a short-term loan app, starting around the seven-day repayment date.

Borrowing from such an app is not the offence. The operators of an unlicensed lending app, or anyone who misuses your data, may be the ones breaking the law. That matters, because shame is what these messages are designed to create, and it keeps people quiet.

What it usually looks like

  • Calls and messages from many different numbers
  • Threats of legal action or arrest
  • Messages to people in your phone contacts
  • Morphed photos (images edited to look like you in a false or obscene setting)

Police in Andhra Pradesh have described this pattern on their own page: a loan approved almost at once, only seven days to repay, then leaked personal details and altered photographs used as pressure.

This page is about what to do and where to complain. The step-by-step portal walkthrough sits on fake loan app harassment: where to file a complaint. The conduct and the debt are separate questions, and the debt is covered near the end.

If you want the wider picture, read about illegal app loans in India and online loan harassment: when it’s an app, not a bank. Next, why it starts so fast.

Why Does Harassment Start So Fast on a 7-Day Loan App?

The due date is tomorrow, or it has passed, and the calls have started. That is the moment most people describe.

The pattern below comes from police statements and news reports. It is not proven for every app, so read it as a description of what has been reported, not a rule.

  • A very short term. Police in Hyderabad described loans with a seven-day tenure. Collection calls began the day after the due date, in an older case from 2020.
  • Less money in hand than on paper. A 2022 Mumbai news report described a borrower who was sanctioned ₹4,000 and received ₹2,350.
  • A term that changes. The same report said the borrower was first told he had 90 days, and was later told repayment was due in seven days.
  • Broad permissions. Hyderabad police said users had to agree to terms that included access to their contacts and ID documents.
  • Messages to contacts. In the same case, police described messages sent to contacts that labelled the borrower a defaulter.

No interest figure is given here, because it varies and cannot be generalised.

Notice what these reports have in common. The pressure begins quickly, it reaches your contacts, and it uses fear of embarrassment. Knowing the pattern makes it easier to step back and follow a plan, instead of paying whatever is asked in the first hour.

Screenshot the app’s permissions page before you turn anything off. It shows what access the app had.

What Should You Do in the First Hour of 7 Days Loan App Harassment?

There is a clear order. Follow it, and you will have a record, a report, and a plan before the day is out.

  1. Do not pay any new fee. “Extension”, “penalty” and “unlock” demands are a common way to take more money.
  2. Screenshot everything before changing anything. Save calls, messages, the app listing, the loan screen, and the app’s permissions.
  3. Remove the app’s permissions. Turn off contacts, photos, SMS, and storage in phone settings after the screenshots.
  4. Warn the people in your contacts. One short line works: a loan app may message you; please do not reply, pay, or forward anything.
  5. Call 1930 or file on cybercrime.gov.in. Do it the same day, and save the reference number.
  6. Keep your bank statement. It shows what you received and what you paid.
  7. Talk to someone before sending more money. FREED Shield is for harassment-level recovery pressure.

Take screenshots first, and uninstall afterwards if you wish. Uninstalling does not wipe what you have already saved, but screenshots taken beforehand are easier to rely on.

India’s Ministry of Home Affairs runs the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and the 1930 helpline so citizens can report cyber incidents, including illegal loan apps. This was stated in a Rajya Sabha reply in March 2026. The Eluru police page says callers to 1930 may be guided on freezing money in disputed transactions.

How to Check Whether a Loan App Is Linked to an RBI-Regulated Bank or NBFC

RBI does not approve or license individual apps. What you can check is whether an app is linked to a regulated bank or NBFC (non-bank loan company).

RBI publishes a public directory of digital lending apps on its website, under Citizen’s Corner. It has been in service since 1 July 2025. The list is built from what regulated entities report, and RBI does not validate it. So a listing is not an endorsement.

A short checklist

  • The company’s name appears in the Key Fact Statement (KFS, the one-page summary of loan costs), the sanction letter, and the loan agreement
  • The app name is spelled exactly the same in the directory
  • The loan terms were disclosed to you before you borrowed

Then follow the fork.

  1. The app is linked to a regulated company. That company is responsible for your grievance. Use its grievance officer first, then RBI’s complaint channels.
  2. The app is not linked to any regulated company. Use the cyber and police routes in the next section.

A missing listing does not prove an app is illegal. It is a strong warning sign, and a reason to be careful before sending any money. To read your KFS, see APR in a loan, explained.

What the Law Says

RBI’s public directory lists apps linked to regulated banks and NBFCs, but a listing is not an RBI endorsement.

Check the App Before You Pay

Where Can You Complain About 7 Days Loan App Harassment?

Different channels handle different parts of the problem. This table sets them side by side.

ChannelWhat It Is ForHow to File
National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) and helpline 1930Threats, morphed photos, and data misuseFile online, or call 1930, and save the reference number
Local police or cyber cellDirect threats and extortionVisit or write with your screenshots and timeline
RBI Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in)An entity lending without authorisationUse “File a Complaint” and pick the closest category
The company’s grievance officer, then RBI’s complaint channelsAn app linked to a regulated bank or NBFCWrite to the grievance officer first, then escalate
The app store’s report optionA harmful app listingUse the report option on the listing

Rates and ranges shown are indicative. Final terms decided by the bank. FREED is not a Loan Provider. No outcome is guaranteed. Please verify directly with your bank.

Using more than one channel works better, because each handles a different part. Keep every reference number. The cyber portal has a separate section for crimes against women and children, where reports can be made anonymously, according to the Eluru police page. No response time is promised by any of these channels, and none is claimed to stop the calls on its own.

Check the category names on each portal before you file, since they can change. For the full walkthrough, read fake loan app harassment: where to file a complaint. If the contact comes from a recovery agent of a regulated company, see how to file a complaint against recovery agents.

What Evidence Should You Keep for a Loan App Harassment Complaint?

A calm, dated record is easier for any officer to act on than a long explanation. Keep these.

  • Screenshots of every call log, SMS, and WhatsApp message, with the date and time
  • The app’s store listing and the loan screen
  • The permissions page, captured before you changed it
  • Your bank statement showing money received and any payments made
  • Messages your contacts received, screenshotted by them and sent to you
  • The numbers and any payment account details they gave
  • A short written timeline, in order

Ask your contacts to screenshot, not reply, and not forward. A forwarded photo spreads further than it should.

Write the timeline in plain sentences, one line per event: the date, what happened, and which screenshot proves it. Keep one folder on your phone and one backup, and name each file with the date so nothing gets lost.

Two small rules keep the record clean. Never edit or crop a screenshot, and never delete the original message after saving a copy. If an officer asks, you can then show the original.

For how regulated companies are expected to behave, see the RBI recovery agent rules.

What If a 7-Day Loan App Sends Morphed Photos or Messages Your Contacts?

This is a crime by the sender, and embarrassment is exactly what these threats rely on. Read the steps, then take them one at a time.

  1. Do not pay more to stop it. Reports describe payments being followed by more demands.
  2. Screenshot the images and the messages. Note the numbers they came from.
  3. Report on cybercrime.gov.in or 1930, and file a police complaint for the threats and the images.
  4. Report the account or number inside the messaging app.
  5. Tell the people who received it that the images are fake. One short line, sent once, is enough.

Police can register offences such as criminal intimidation, extortion, and publishing obscene material. The police decide which sections apply, so describe what happened in plain words.

If this is weighing on you, you do not have to carry it alone. Two free, confidential helplines are iCall at 9152987821 and Vandrevala Foundation at 9999 666 555. Talking to someone you trust, even for ten minutes, helps.

The people who matter to you will mostly care more about you than about a morphed image. If you need to explain it, you can say the images are fake and have been reported.

Do You Still Owe Money on a 7 Days Loan App?

The harassment and the debt are two separate questions. A complaint about harassment does not by itself cancel what you may owe, and borrowing from an unregistered app does not make you the offender.

  • If the app is linked to a regulated company, you owe what your agreement says. The company must follow recovery rules, and you can ask for an itemised statement.
  • If it is not linked to any regulated company, whether anything is owed is a case-specific legal question. Get advice before sending money.
  • Never pay to a personal account or to a link sent over WhatsApp.

For regulated companies, RBI’s rule on penal charges applies: they are a charge, not extra interest, and they must be disclosed (RBI/2023-24/53, paras 3(i) and 3(vii)).

Ask for the company’s name and a written statement before paying anything. A real regulated company can give you both. A statement should show what was sanctioned, what you received, what you have paid, and what is claimed as due, line by line.

If the app will not give a company name or a statement, treat that as information. It does not settle whether anything is owed, but it is a reason to speak to a counsellor or lawyer before paying. This page does not tell you to pay or not to pay, because the right answer depends on your papers.

How FREED Helps With 7 Days Loan App Harassment

There are two separate things FREED can help with.

If the problem is harassment. FREED Shield is for anyone facing recovery pressure, not only people enrolled in a FREED program. FREED Shield helps ensure that customers don’t have to face recovery-related pressure alone. It steps in when a call turns abusive or threatening. You file through the FREED app, or call the helpline during a live harassment call. FREED’s in-house team can also check whether a legal notice is genuine and help draft a reply before any case is filed.

If several app loans are unmanageable. That is a separate matter from the harassment. If you are still paying, the FREED Loan Consolidation Plan, also called the Debt Consolidation Program or “Reduce My EMI”, is for people who can still repay but need a smarter way to manage their debt. If you truly cannot repay, the FREED Loan Settlement Plan, also called the Debt Resolution Program, is built for that. Settlement is not something a borrower chooses out of preference, and it takes time. A waiver of up to 50%* may be possible, but no outcome is guaranteed.

Nothing here says Shield stops calls or files complaints for you. FREED does not work with any loan app.

Rates and ranges shown are indicative. Final terms decided by the bank. FREED is not a Loan Provider. No outcome is guaranteed. Please verify directly with your bank.

How to Avoid Another 7 Days Loan App Trap

Five habits keep you out of the next one.

  1. Check the app in RBI’s directory and find the company’s name before you install it. A missing name is a warning sign.
  2. Never grant contacts, photos, or SMS access. A loan does not need them.
  3. Download loan apps only from trusted app stores, but remember that an app’s presence on Google Play or Apple’s App Store does not guarantee its legitimacy. Before applying, verify the lending company’s identity, check whether it is regulated by the RBI, and review the app’s permissions, interest rates, and repayment terms. Avoid apps requesting unnecessary access to contacts, photographs, or personal files.
  4. Read the amount you will actually receive and the repayment date before you accept. The gap between the two tells you a lot.
  5. Keep a small cash cushion. A short-term app loan can turn a ₹5,000 gap into a bigger problem.

For more on this, read about low CIBIL score loan apps and the fake loan app complaint guide.

If an app is already on your phone, you can remove its permissions today. Open your phone settings, go to the app, and switch off contacts, photos, and SMS. It takes two minutes.

One more safeguard is worth adding. Keep your UPI limit low on the account you use for app loans, and keep your main savings in a separate account. If someone does manage to pull money, the damage stays small.

A harassing call is a reason to follow a plan, not a reason to panic. You have a record to keep, a place to report, and people who can help.
