What Are Yes Bank Personal Loan Foreclosure Charges in 2026?

Yes Bank personal loan foreclosure charges are a fee for closing your loan early (this is called foreclosure). You pay it on top of what you still owe. Here is the slab from Yes Bank’s Schedule of Charges.

The charge sits on your principal outstanding. That is the part of the loan you still owe, not counting future interest. It is not charged on the original loan amount. Say you owe ₹3,00,000 in month 20. The charge is 4%, which is ₹12,000. GST adds ₹2,160, so you pay ₹14,160.

The fee falls the longer you have paid. After 48 months, it is nil. Two extra costs sit outside the slab. GST at the prevailing rate is added to every charge. And each foreclosure statement costs ₹500 plus GST.

Loan variants and older loans can carry different terms. So open your own sanction letter and check. To see how a closed loan appears on your report, read how to update your CIBIL score after loan closure.

Why Do People Want to Close a Personal Loan Early?

A Diwali bonus lands in your account. Or an FD matures. The same week, the EMI reminder pops up on your phone. Suddenly the question feels real: why not just close this loan?

Many people feel the same pull. The reasons are practical.

The interest is high. You may be paying 13% or more on the loan. Your savings earn far less. The gap bothers you every month.

A home loan is coming. Banks look at your existing EMIs when you apply. One fewer EMI gives you more room.

One EMI is too heavy. Out of several EMIs, one takes a big bite of your salary. Removing it feels like breathing out.

Peace of mind. Some people simply want to owe nothing. That is a fair reason.

If you want to see your whole EMI load first, FREED’s EMI Score turns it into one number. And if you are planning to merge several loans, the Debt Consolidation Program is worth a look.

One caution. Do not use your emergency savings to close the loan. A loan you can still pay is better than an empty safety net. If an unexpected bill comes next month, you may have to borrow again, maybe at a worse rate.

When Can You Foreclose a Yes Bank Personal Loan?

The rule is simple. Yes Bank allows foreclosure only after you have paid 12 EMIs. Before that, it is not permitted.

There is one small window at the start. Yes Bank’s terms give a cooling-off period of 0 to 3 days. If you return the loan in that window, you pay no prepayment penalty. The interest for those days still applies.

Now the RBI rule, in plain words. RBI’s Pre-payment Charges on Loans Directions, 2025 say banks cannot charge a prepayment fee on floating-rate loans given to individuals for non-business purposes. It applies to loans sanctioned or renewed on or after 1 January 2026.

Most personal loans are fixed-rate. So Yes Bank’s foreclosure charges usually still apply. This RBI rule does not cancel them. To know where you stand, open your sanction letter or your KFS (Key Facts Statement, the one-page summary of your loan). It will say whether your rate is fixed or floating. Our guide to floating interest rate calculation explains the difference.

RBI also asks for clear disclosure. Any prepayment charge must be written in your sanction letter, your loan agreement, and your KFS. A charge that was not disclosed cannot be added later.

What the Law Says

Banks can’t charge a prepayment fee that wasn’t disclosed in your sanction letter, loan agreement, and KFS.

How Much Does Yes Bank Personal Loan Foreclosure Really Cost?

Numbers tell the story better than rules. Meet Neha. She is 31 and lives in Jaipur. She took a ₹5,00,000 Yes Bank personal loan at 13% fixed for 48 months. Her EMI is ₹13,414.

Walk through each row. Foreclosing a personal loan may reduce future interest payments, but the actual savings depend on the outstanding principal, remaining tenure, interest rate and applicable foreclosure charges. Borrowers should compare the total remaining interest with the bank's final foreclosure statement, including applicable fees and taxes. The exact savings cannot be determined without verifying the repayment schedule and charges.

After 30 EMIs, the charge is lower, but the interest left is also lower. She is about ₹14,800 ahead.

After 42 EMIs, little interest remains. She saves ₹2,966 and pays ₹2,419. She is only about ₹550 ahead.

Here is the point to take away. The earlier you close, after the 12 EMI mark, the more it is worth. This is true even though the charge percentage is highest then. The reason is simple. Early in the loan, a lot of interest is still ahead of you. Late in the loan, there is almost none left to save.

The 13% rate is only an example. Your own rate will change every number. So run your own sums before you pay the Yes Bank personal loan foreclosure charges. For a plain look at how banks build an EMI, read how banks calculate EMI.

Is Part Payment Better Than Full Foreclosure?

Maybe you have some money, but not enough to close the whole loan. Part payment can help. Yes Bank allows it with clear limits.

  • It is allowed only after 12 EMIs.

  • It is allowed once in a financial year and twice during the loan.

  • The charge is 3% plus tax on the amount you pay.

  • The amount is capped at 20% of your outstanding in months 13 to 36, and 25% after month 36.

  • Your EMI stays the same. The number of EMIs falls, so the loan ends sooner.

Back to Neha. After 18 EMIs she pays 20% of her outstanding, which is ₹68,400. The charge is 3% plus GST, so ₹2,421. Her loan ends 6 months sooner. She has 24 EMIs left instead of 30. She saves about ₹23,150 in interest. Net, she is about ₹20,700 ahead.

Part payment suits a borrower who wants to save interest but also keep a cushion. You cut the debt without emptying your account.

FREED Expert Tip

Make a part payment right after the 12th EMI. The earlier you cut what you owe, the more interest you save.

How to Foreclose a Yes Bank Personal Loan, Step by Step

Follow these six steps in order.

  1. Confirm you have paid 12 EMIs and check your rate type. Look at your sanction letter or KFS. Foreclosure is not allowed before 12 EMIs, and the rate type tells you which RBI rule applies.

  2. Ask Yes Bank for a foreclosure statement. Request it through a branch, phone banking or your registered email. It costs ₹500 per request. The statement gives the exact amount to pay.

  3. Check the statement line by line. Look at the principal, interest till date, the charge and GST. An error is easier to fix before you pay.

  4. Pay the exact amount before the valid-till date. Pay from your own account and keep the receipt. Paying late can change the amount, and the receipt is your proof.

  5. Collect the closure letter and NOC. The NOC is your no dues certificate. It proves the loan is fully closed.

  6. Cancel the NACH. NACH is the auto-debit permission you gave the bank. Cancelling it stops any EMI from going out after closure.

Rates and charges shown are indicative and based on Yes Bank’s published terms at the time of writing. Final charges depend on your loan agreement. Please verify directly with Yes Bank. FREED is not a Loan Provider.

Use the calculator once before you request the statement. Then check the statement against your own sums. Our Check Credit Insight page shows your report before you start.

What Happens to Your CIBIL Score After Foreclosure?

A foreclosed loan shows as “Closed”. That means paid in full. It is a clean status.

Here is what to expect. You have one fewer active loan. Your score may move a little, up or down, as your credit mix changes. A closed account with a good payment record keeps helping your history. In one sentence: “Settled” means less than the full amount was paid, and foreclosure is not that. For the difference, read bank loan settlement vs closure.

Reporting is faster now. From 1 July 2026, RBI requires banks to send credit information to bureaus as on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and last day of every month. So a closure usually shows within a few weeks.

If it does not show after 45 days, raise a dispute with the bureau. Attach your NOC as proof. Our guide to updating your CIBIL score after loan closure walks through it.

FREED’s Credit Insights lets you check what is listed, in a few minutes. It is a soft inquiry, so it does not touch your score.

What Are Your Options If You Can’t Close the Loan in One Go?

Not everyone has the full amount ready. You still have good choices. Here they are, in order.

1. Part payment. Pay a part now, as in the section above. The EMI stays the same and the loan ends sooner.

2. Personal loan balance transfer. You move the loan to another bank at a lower rate. Yes Bank’s foreclosure charge still applies to the old loan, so add it to your sums. Read our personal loan balance transfer interest rate guide and the eligibility guide first.

3. FREED’s Loan Consolidation Plan. If this loan sits beside cards or other loans, one new loan can pay all of them off together. You then pay one EMI. Our explainer on debt consolidation meaning covers the idea.

Remember one thing. When any loan is paid off early through a new loan, the Yes Bank foreclosure charge still applies. It is part of the old loan’s cost. Count it before you decide.

How FREED Helps If Your Yes Bank Loan Is One of Several EMIs

Say your Yes Bank loan is one of three or four EMIs. Closing just one will not ease the month. That is where FREED’s Loan Consolidation Plan, called “Reduce My EMI”, comes in. It is for people who can still repay but need a smarter way to manage their debt.

Here is how it works. FREED looks at all your loans, cards, and income. It matches you to a lending partner. One new loan then pays off the Yes Bank loan and your other unsecured loans and card dues together.

f approved by a lending partner, debt consolidation may allow eligible borrowers to combine multiple unsecured loans and credit card dues into one loan with a single monthly repayment. However, applying for a new loan may affect your credit score due to credit enquiries and changes in your credit profile. Consistent, timely repayments may support credit health over time, but an improvement in your credit score is not guaranteed.

On cost, FREED charges a success-based fee. It applies only when your consolidation is completed. There is no upfront fee. Separately, any foreclosure charge on the old Yes Bank loan and any processing fee on the new loan belong to those banks. They are not FREED’s charges.

The plan covers unsecured loans and card dues. It is not for home, car, gold, or education loans. FREED does the work for you. It handles the matching and the process from start to finish.

What Should You Check After Foreclosing Your Yes Bank Loan?

You paid the last rupee. A few quick checks make sure the loan is really closed.

  • Store the NOC and closure letter in two places. Keep one copy on your phone and one in a folder. A duplicate NOC costs ₹250, so a spare saves money.

  • Check your bank statement next month. Make sure no EMI was debited after closure. A forgotten auto-debit can slip through.

  • Ask for a refund if a stray EMI was taken. Share your NOC as proof. Write to the bank in simple words with the date and amount.

  • Check your credit report within 30 to 45 days. It should show the loan as “Closed”. If it does not, raise the dispute with your NOC.

Then do one more thing. Put the EMI you no longer pay into savings or an emergency fund. You lived with that payment for months. Your budget already works without it. Moving that money straight into savings gives you a cushion without feeling any pinch.

If other EMIs still weigh on you, you do not have to carry them alone.
